Custom App Development Services

From concept to launch. We design and build custom applications

web, mobile, and everything between — built around how your business actually operates.

Custom Application Development, Start to Finish

STRATEGY, DESIGN, BUILD, AND SUPPORT

An app is a serious investment, and most of the ones that fail do so for the same reason: nobody was rigorous about what problem it solved before development started.

We take custom app development projects from concept through launch — strategy, design, build, and support. That includes being straight with you at the start about whether an app is the right answer, what it will realistically cost, and where the risks are. Sometimes the honest answer is that a well-built web application does the job for a fraction of a native mobile build. We'll tell you when that's the case.

Robert Arthur Designs has been building for the web since 2009, with design and development handled in-house.

Custom App Development Services

Custom Web Applications

Browser-based applications that work on any device with no install required. For most business tools — dashboards, portals, internal systems — this is the fastest and most cost-effective path.

Progressive Web Apps (PWAs)

Apps that install to a phone's home screen and work offline, without the cost and approval friction of the app stores. Often the right middle ground between a website and a native app.

Custom Mobile App Development

Cross-platform mobile applications for iOS and Android built from a single codebase — meaning one build, two platforms, and substantially lower cost than developing each separately.

Internal Business Tools

Applications that replace the spreadsheet, the manual process, or the three subscriptions that almost work. Built around your workflow, used by your team.

Customer-Facing Portals

Client logins, account dashboards, booking systems, and self-service tools that reduce support load while improving the customer experience.

MVP & Prototype Development

A focused first version built to test the core idea with real users before committing to a full build. The cheapest way to find out whether the concept works.

Web App, Mobile App, or Both?

We'll work through this with you before quoting anything. Getting it wrong here is the most expensive mistake in app development.

A web application is usually right when:

Your users are on desktops, or on phones but not constantly. You need to ship quickly and iterate. You want a single codebase and no app store approval process. Most internal tools and B2B products land here.

A mobile app is usually right when:

You need device features — camera, GPS, push notifications, offline use. Your users engage daily and short-session. Being on a home screen is part of the value.

A progressive web app is often the answer when:

You want home screen presence and offline capability, but the cost and overhead of native development is hard to justify at this stage.

What Does Custom App Development Cost?

The honest answer is that it varies enormously, and anyone quoting you a number before understanding your project is guessing.

What actually drives the cost:

  • Scope. Number of features, and how many are genuinely custom versus standard.
  • Platform. A web app costs less than cross-platform mobile, which costs less than two separate native builds.
  • Integrations. Every external system the app talks to adds work.
  • User accounts and permissions. Multi-role systems with different permission levels are meaningfully more complex than single-user tools.
  • Design. A polished, custom-designed interface takes longer than a functional one.

Our approach: scope the project properly, then give you a fixed quote before development starts. If the budget doesn't fit the full vision, we'll help you identify a smaller first version that proves the concept — which is usually the smarter move anyway.

Why Work With Robert Arthur Designs

How We Build Custom Applications

1.

Discovery & Strategy

We define the problem, the users, and the core functionality — then cut everything that isn't essential to version one. Scope discipline at this stage is what keeps app projects from doubling in cost.

2.

UX & Interface Design

We plan the data structure and user flows, then design the interface. You review and approve before any code is written — changes are cheap at this stage and expensive later.

3.

Development

Built in stages, with working versions you can use and give feedback on throughout. No long silences.

4.

Testing & QA

Cross-browser and cross-device testing, security review, performance optimization, and a staged deployment. We handle the launch.

5.

Launch & Ongoing Support

Deployment, monitoring, and continued development. Applications need maintenance — OS updates, security patches, new features — and we stay on for that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to build an app?

It depends on scope, platform, and complexity — a focused internal tool is a very different project from a consumer mobile app with user accounts and payments. Rather than quote blind, we scope the project first and give you a fixed price. If you tell us what you're trying to build, we can usually give you a realistic range within a short conversation.

How long does app development take?

A focused MVP or internal tool typically runs six to twelve weeks. More complex applications with multiple user roles and integrations generally run three to six months. Mobile apps add time for app store review. We provide a timeline as part of the scope.

Should I build a web app or a mobile app?

It depends on how your users will actually use it. If they need device features like camera, GPS, or push notifications, or they'll use it daily in short sessions, mobile makes sense. For most business tools and B2B products, a web application ships faster and costs significantly less. We'll work through this with you before quoting.

Do you build native iOS and Android apps?

We build cross-platform mobile applications that run on both iOS and Android from a single codebase. For the large majority of business applications this delivers the same result as separate native builds at substantially lower cost. If a project genuinely requires fully native development, we'll tell you.

What is an MVP, and should I start with one?

An MVP — minimum viable product — is a first version containing only the core functionality needed to test whether the idea works with real users. For most new applications, yes, start there. It's the cheapest way to learn whether the concept holds before committing to a full build, and what you learn almost always changes what version two looks like.

Do I own the app and the code?

Yes. The code, the data, and the accounts are yours. We build on standard, well-supported technology so you're never locked into us.

Do you work with clients outside Florida?

Yes. We're based in Ponte Vedra, Florida, and work with clients throughout the United States. App development is location-independent.
